September, 1912.
Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge Mr. Read's letter of August 30th No. 27069/1912 relative
to the HongKong University.
2. The Council of the University have appointed two Committees in England. The first named the
*Selection Committee" consists of the body of
gentlemen who select candidates for Indian and
Colonial Educational appointments. Their services
were most courteously offered by Sir John Struthers
of the Scottish Educational Department with whom alone
we have corresponded.
I am not aware of the names
of the Members of this Committee, but Dr. Heath of
the Education Department appears to be the working
head of it, and I had considerable correspondence with
him relative to the appointment of Sir Charles Eliot
as Principal. Any enquiries as to appointments
could be referred to this Committee.
3. The second is a General Committee repre-
senting the HongKong University's interests in
The Under Secretary of State,
COLONIAL OFFICE, S.W.
England.
